stretchers (aka: fried dough)

Whenever we would visit South Dakota when I was little, we were always served Stretchers.  Makes my mouth water just thinking about them!

Rhodes Dinner Rolls or Texas Rolls, thawed and risen

vegetable oil

sugar, powdered sugar, butter, jam, honey, whatever you desire

*Pour oil 2 to 3-inches deep into a large pan or an electric frying pan, and heat to medium-high setting (375-degrees).

*Flatten each dinner roll into a 3 to 4-inch circle (5 to 6-inch for Texas rolls), or an oval is fine, too (that's what I prefer).

*Fry dough on each side until golden brown, about 15 seconds per side).  Remove and set on paper towel.

*Serve hot!  Sprinkle with topping of your choice (our preference is butter and sugar).
