1 lb Apollo Strudel leaves (fillo leaves)
2 cups melted butter
~Mix the following in large bowl...
3 cups walnuts (finely chopped)
1 cup almonds (finely chopped)
variety of nuts used, optional
1/4 tsp cinnamon
1/8 tsp ground cloves
1/3 cup sugar
~Place 5 fillo leaves in 13x9x2" pan. Butter each as it is stacked. Evenly sprinkle 5 heaping Tbsp of nut mixture. Place 2 leaves on top, brush with butter. Sprinkle 5 Tbsp of mixture. Repeat 4 times.
~Place remaining fillo on top, buttering each second leaf. Trim edges with sharp knife. Score top sheets into diamond shapes using "up and down" motion.
~Bake 45 minutes to an hour. Turn off heat and let Baklava cool in oven.
~Pour hot syrup over Baklava....
Syrup: 2 cups water; 2 cups sugar; 1/2 cup honey; 1 tsp lemon juice; a few pieces of lemon or orange rind and a cinnamon stick. Bring to a boil and cook for 10 minutes.
Note... this recipe is fabulous, and a lot easier to make than the directions seem. It can't be ruined, it's that good!
